Told It First Hand with Scott Stedman of Northside Media Group
July 9 @ 5:30 pm
The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival, The Hip-Hop Institute, and The Bodega Education Initiative kicks off the 10th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival on July 9th at Brooklyn Historical Society! For this special Festival edition, we are proud to present two not-to-be missed events.
Event #1: Told It First Hand (5:30pm)
The first event will be Told It First Hand hosted by Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival Founder and Executive Director Wes Jackson. The acclaimed series is an intimate discussion with the “do-ers” in Hip-Hop and in Brooklyn: the people who have produced, written, composed, financed, or chronicled the works of art that drive the creative forces in Brooklyn as well as in Hip-Hop music and culture as a whole.
Wes will be sitting down with Scott Stedman, Founder of the Northside Media Group, the brand behind The L Magazine, Brooklyn Magazine, BAMbill and The Northside Festival. Inspired by recent comments by Spike Lee and others, the two entrepreneurs will attempt to tackle the sometimes thorny issue of gentrification in the ever growing borough of Brooklyn.
Event #2: The Combat Jack Show (8pm)
The second event of the evening is a live edition of The Combat Jack Show. To learn more and pick up your tickets, go here.
Ticket Details: Told It First Hand with Scott Stedman Wednesday, July 9th, 5:30pm
$5 / Free for BHS Members

The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival
The 10th Annual Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival is headlined by Raekwon and Jay Electronica and hosted by Uncle Ralph McDaniels with CJ Fly of Pro Era and Cyhi The Prynce rounding out the bill. More artists for the finale on July 12th will be announced in the coming weeks including the lineup of the 10th Anniversary celebration and the opening acts selected in partnership with Sonicbids.
The Hip-Hop Institute
The 10th Anniversary of The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival also marks the beginning of Brooklyn Bodega’s next venture, The Hip-Hop Institute. The Institute is the natural evolution of the spirit of The Brooklyn Hip-Hop Festival.
While The Festival has been Hip-Hop’s family reunion, The Institute will be its permanent home. A place where aspiring artists, producers, DJ’s, filmmakers, designers and entrepreneurs will able to learn and practice their craft. It will be a safe home for touring artists. A performance space. An archive for our legacy.
