CHEERS TO BROOKLYN WHISKEY

Join fellow whiskey-enthusiasts on a tour of whiskey and distilling in Brooklyn from its nascent stages in the early 19th Century to the present day. Tour-goers start their afternoon at Green-Wood’s stunning Pierrepont memorial where they will learn about Hezekiah Beers Pierrepont and the distillery business he began in 1803. They’ll visit other “permanent residents” with whiskey connections too, including Clinton Gilbert, a tax collector, who was shot during a federal raid on the Brooklyn Navy Yard distilleries —an extraordinary episode in 1869 in which close to 1,000 federal troops converged on Brooklyn to shut down its thriving whiskey distilleries for failure to pay taxes.
After the tour, jump ahead to present day when Green-Wood’s trolley will whisk visitors away to Kings County Distillery in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where they have been making whiskey in their historic building since 2010. Everyone will get the chance to see how they create their modern whiskey before tasting some of the delectable product. From there guests will have the option of staying at the Navy Yard or taking the trolley back to Green-Wood.
This tour is $30; $25 for members of the Green-Wood Historic Fund and the Brooklyn Historical Society. Ticket price includes tour at both locations and tasting.
