Explore Brooklyn and Airbnb introduced East New York businesses to local Airbnb hosts at their sixth collaborative networking event of the year. By helping local businesses eager to meet Airbnb hosts, the event was another successful collaboration that exposed the range of housing options for visitors to Brooklyn love.

The mixer took place at Fusion East in East New York, a Caribbean restaurant and bar located at 1179 Elton Street, just outside of the Gateway Center Mall. Since its opening in 2015, owner Andrew Walcott has found a way to incorporate support from members of the community in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Cambria Heights and Canarsie to welcome the culture and diversity of all neighborhoods. With a unique blend of Caribbean and Southern comfort food, attendees experienced candied yams, jerk chicken wings and more!

With Caribbean steel pan beats from the moment the attendees walked into Fusion East, the fun mixer’s tone was set. Highlighting the importance of the work Airbnb hosts do, both elected officials and Airbnb representatives spoke about the economic impact of visitors staying like locals. Local businesses are an integral part of the local communities across the borough. Local elected officials were present to show their support, with Melinda Perkins (District Manager, Community Board 5) and Lateef Turral on behalf of Senator Roxanne Persaud of the 19th Senate District speaking.

Walcott hosted the large party with open arms, promoting the local Caribbean restaurant as a fun place to be for locals and visitors alike. By connecting hosts and businesses, the event created a good bridge for hosts to feel more involved in their local community by helping their guests spend time and money locally in East New York.
