From time to time, we like to publish a “neighborhood roundup” post, in case you missed some of the businesses and attractions we’ve profiled in past posts. But what if you missed the roundup post? Here’s a roundup of our past neighborhood roundups — a handy way for you to discover all the great stuff you can find in some of your favorite Brooklyn neighborhoods.
BoCoCa (BoCoCa Roundup) is a catchall term coined by a web designer over a decade ago for the neighborhoods of Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill, and Carroll Gardens (plus the Columbia Street Waterfront and the parts of Red Hook north of the Battery Tunnel). BoCoCa never really caught on, but it can be a handy designation for the intersection of simpatico neighborhoods that were generally referred to simply as South Brooklyn until the 1960s. All three neighborhoods feature cozy brownstones and townhouses and a wealth of great restaurants and bars.

Bed-Stuy Roundup

Carroll Gardens Roundup
Carroll Gardens, a traditionally Italian neighborhood, is also known for its hip boutiques and restaurants. Along the main drag of Smith Street, you’ll find plenty of spots to shop, eat and drink mixed with old-school Italian bakeries, pastry shops, and grocery stores. Turn onto any of the side streets to find spectacular brownstones along tree-lined streets — this neighborhood is the only one in Brooklyn where the brownstones feature gracious, landscaped front yards.

Bay Ridge Roundup
Bay Ridge, once one of Brooklyn’s predominant Italian neighborhoods, is now home to a diverse mix of people who take advantage of the suburban-like atmosphere and excellent housing stock. Wander the side streets for a mix of brownstones, townhouses, and stand-alone homes, or head west to walk, bike, or run along the neighborhood’s expansive waterfront park.

Fort Greene Roundup
It’s hard not to fall in love with Fort Greene’s pristine brownstones and quiet narrow blocks — most of which lead to Fort Greene Park, with its rolling green hills and towering trees. The corner cafes and diverse selection of restaurants give the neighborhood a cozy feel. Gowanus Roundup
Gowanus is defined by its proximity to the Gowanus Canal, the industrial waterway that runs through the middle of the neighborhood, flanked by old warehouse buildings and construction sites. This former manufacturing district is changing quickly, though: Many of the warehouses are now home to loft apartments and unique attractions. Even the once-quiet stretch of 3rd Avenue now boasts its share of bars and restaurants.

Williamsburg Roundup
