Narrows Community Theater presents “Show Boat, in Concert” for one weekend only opening June 2nd at St. Patrick’s Auditorium, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. NCT’s show is a special tribute in memory of Mickey Sullivan, a longstanding member of the board of directors since NCT was founded in 1971,
Show Boat originally appeared on Broadway in 1927 and musically portrays the racism and social tensions that existed during that time. This two-act concert runs 90 minutes and is set on a Riverboat on the Mississippi. It tells the story of the Hawks family and their show boat troop of actors aboard the Cotton Blossom floating theater.
”Mickey’s love for the art of theater and his lifelong dedication to keeping it available as a vital part of our local community knew no limit”, commented a family spokesperson. “He was an active part of NCT until his very last day on earth. We were blessed beyond measure to have his influence in our lives and he will forever be remembered as an inspiration to us all.”
NCT’s production features Music Director Sean Pallatroni and Assistant Music Director Jose Mendez. Cast includes Daren Liff as the handsome riverboat gambler Gaylord Ravenal, Emily Mathis as his love interest Magnolia, Patrick Nash as Magnolia’s father Capt. Andy, Carolyn Antonucci as Magnolia’s mother Parthy, Beata Royzman as the show’s leading lady Julie LaVerne, Kevin Ray Johnson as Joe, Tyler VanTassel as Ellie, Charlie Clark as Queenie. The 25 member chorus provides a harmonious blend of four vocal parts.
