DUMBO, which stands for “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass,”  boasts a popular waterfront park with spectacular views of Lower Manhattan, the East River, and the Brooklyn Bridge. Because the modest neighborhood is almost entirely protected by a historic district, the hulking warehouses and cobblestone streets built when the area was a shipping and manufacturing hub remain remarkably well preserved. Renowned restaurants like the River Cafe and Grimaldi’s only solidify DUMBO’s reputation as a must-see Brooklyn neighborhood. Photo courtesy of justinshu via Flickr.
